Do I need a money belt?

Money belts provide for a peace of mind when traveling to developing countries or big cities across the globe. It allows travelers to safely place their credit cards and cash under their clothing so that pick-pockets are unsuccessful in grabbing them in the middle of busy transportation hubs or tourist destinations.
Another tip is to spread your money and credit cards to several pockets so that a successful pick-pocket only takes a small portion of your travel currency.
Consider the Rick Steves Money Belt for the superior quality of its fabric.

I don’t know, I found that in order to get at my money belt, I called even more attention to myself and my “tourist” status than without one.
Keeping my money in my front pocket or in a bag that was zipped and held close in front did just as well – even in countries and cities that are high risk.

When I use a money belt which is only in a few places, I put my passport, extra credit cards and cash in there. Nothing that I will need that day, but things I don’t want to leave in the hotel.
I agree that it’s not a good idea to get money out of it in public. Anything I need for the day goes in my pockets (spread around).
Hi Gennaro – I like the idea of not only the money belt but separating money and valuables between pockets. I’ve also heard of women keeping money in their bras and men, putting it in their socks.
Agree with ya Gennaro… I used my money belt on a daily basis while skipping across the globe, but I rarely, if ever actually pulled it out from underneath my clothing. I always carried cash in a pocket or two.

Bras and socks would work. Good ideas.

Better to separate funds. No doubt.
