@Zaharetic - Love it too. Has a lot of philosophy too.

@Punxsutawney Phil - The groundhog saw his shadow in 2010 meaning 6 more weeks of winter.

This is great - as we were watching Groundhog Day, my husband suggested we take a drive up to Punxsutawney to check it out. We'll have to make a weekend trip out of it since it's four hours a way, but it looks like a cool place to see.

Hi Gennaro,
A little late in getting here (or way early for next year!). I find this very interesting to learn a little of the background on Groundhog Day. And the movie...is a classic! Thanks for the insights!

That groundhog is unpopular at the moment. At least he's usually wrong. Classic film, indeed.

Thanks to the groundhog for messing up my early spring. I guess I sit inside and watch the movie. A Bill Murray classic by the way.

I went this year and it was a nice experience. I brought my daughters and they liked it. It's a piece of Americana. Small town with a little legend.

It's definately coming either way! The town is so into it...this will continue forever.

@Seth

Nope, 6 more weeks of winter. Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow today.

Every year I'm surprised that this occurs in the state that I live in. Of course, it is 5 hours away so it's not exactly next door.

I also wonder if the groundhog is scared of all the people and commotion - I feel bad for him/her in a way.

It's kind of a silly tradition - Spring is coming no matter what.

I often wondered how accurate the groundhog really was, I guess 37% is pretty good for folklore. Either way you look at it Groundhog is closer to spring then say Christmas, so it is a sign of warm weather no matter how you slice it.

It has been a cold winter, for sure

Thanks!

"A Canadian researcher did a careful study and found that the groundhog gets it right about <a href="http://encarta.msn.com/column_groundhogday_tamimhome/the_secret_truth_behind_groundhog_day.html" rel="nofollow">37 percent</a> of the time."

The trouble with that movie, apart from being funny, is that there are so many occasions when you seem to be doing the same thing all over again, it's almost as if groundhog day really existed.

BTW, I also would like to know how accurate his predictions are?

That's a funny American tradition. Is it actually true? How often is the groundhog right?
